60% Petite Sirah, 20% Syrah, 20% Zinfandel
VINEYARDS & TERROIRS
The Petite Sirah is sourced from Heringer Holland Vineyard, planted in 2000 in fine, sandy loam and trellised in the vertical shoot positioning system. The Syrah comes from Six Hands Winery’s Estate Vineyard in Clarksburg and was planted in 1995 in fine, sandy loam soil. The Zinfandel vines were planted in the late 1950s in San Joaquin loam soils. The vines are head-pruned and farmed with a low impact to the environment. Out of respect for the ongoing water deficit, the vineyard is minimally irrigated throughout the season, which in turn, increases grape flavor and concentration. All of the vineyards are sustainably farmed.
The individual varietals that compose Prestige are crushed, de-stemmed, and vinified separately to highlight their individual character. The grapes macerate on their skins for two weeks, at which time primary fermentation occurs for two weeks under cool conditions. Manual punch-downs take place three times per day. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is racked into tank to settle for two months and then moved into barrel, where it ages for 24 months in 40% new barrels and 60% second-year barrels. Prestige is then blended and bottled unfined and lightly filtered before release.
